Biography

Sue-Ann Post is Australia’s only six foot, lesbian, ex-Mormon, diabetic, comedian and author. Since Sue-Ann launched onto the scene in 1991 with her multi award winning solo show, A Bit of a Postscript, she has been creating her own brand of information charged comedy that has shocked and delighted audiences around Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA.

Sue-Ann has recently returned from a tour of the USA where she filmed A Lost Tribe, her documentary on gay and lesbian Mormons with filmmaker Rachel Landers (Whiteys Like Us, Drama School). The book of the journey The Confession of an Unrepentant Lesbian Ex-Mormon is available through ABC Books. The book and film follow Sue-Ann’s journey to Salt Lake City, Utah or the Mormon Zion to perform at the annual gay and lesbian Mormon conference. They capture lots of hugging, many tears, Sue-Ann’s own excommunication and some very bad Mormon dancing. The documentary is due to air on ABC TV’s Compass later in the year.

Sue-Ann’s first book A Bit of a Postscript was published by Penguin and her short stories and poetry have appeared in numerous anthologies. Her stage adaptation of Jeff Raglus’ Snorky the Wave Puncher was performed by Arena Theatre Company in sellout seasons across Australia and the UK. Posty’s thought-provoking weekly column appeared in The Age for three years and was nominated for the 2002 Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission’s Print Media Award. Her articles have also appeared in The West Australian, the UK’s Freethinker and Versal in The Netherlands.

Sue-Ann has written and performed numerous one-woman shows in festivals across the world including the Edinburgh Fringe, the Adelaide Fringe and the Gay Games. Her first one woman show, A Bit of a Postscript won the Radio National Award for Best Comic Performance at the Melbourne Fringe and Wellington Fringe Award for Best Comedy. More recently G-Strings and Jockstraps won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Barry Award for best show and enjoyed a sellout season at the Sydney Opera House. Her latest one woman show Jesus Loves Me, He Just Hates What I’m Doing premiered at the 2005 Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April.

Sue-Ann has also made numerous television appearances, most recently she played “Karen” in Kath and Kim. She has been a co-host on The Panel and Standing Up and made numerous guest appearances on programs as diverse as Denton, The Way We Were and Good Morning Australia. Her solo show A Bit of a Postscript was adapted for television and appeared as a half-hour episode of Smallest Room in the House.
